What’s in a Name?

Did I capture your attention with my blog name? If so, it worked. If not, what are you doing here? What were you expecting to find here? Perhaps a grammarian. Perhaps a teacher frustrated by societal constraints against using a red pen to mark student papers. Perhaps someone with punctuational OCD. Or maybe it’s just a name. Because let’s be honest. If I really was all of those things, I wouldn’t’ve written most everything that came before this period. Or after, I suspect. Let’s be clear. I am well-versed in the rules of grammar and punctuation and, when appropriate, I employ them whole-heartedly. In my head, my red pen appears whenever I read something.  Like it or not, my internal voice loudly points out errors, inconsistencies, and possible improvements. Sadly, not everyone wants to hear what that voice has to say. Some people think I’m too outspoken, too honest. I’ve been told I lack tact. Too bad. If you don’t want the truth, don’t ask for it. And seriously? Stop taking yourself so seriously. No one else does. Sorry. You probably didn’t want to hear that either.

Contrary to what I’ve likely led you to believe,  I didn’t start out writing today with the intention of insulting you, Dear Reader. Forgive me. We really should get to know one another better before we start trading insults. And to that end, I welcome your comments and look forward to getting to know you better.

I’ll keep this brief because, althoughI may be amusing myself, I don’t want to scare you away with my verbosity. Did I mention? I’m a Proofreader and Editor. And I help writers translate ideas into words. Let me know if I can help you!
